When Swiss widower Ruedi signs up to work with an assisted dying group, his first client Margrit means more to him than he knows. Book launch with Clare O’Dea in conversation with Helen Stubbs Pugin. Seeking a new purpose in life, Swiss widower Ruedi signs up to work with Depart, an assisted dying organization. His role is to spend time with those who have sought out Depart’s services, acting as a guide and companion in their final weeks. Margrit, his aloof first client, wants only to get on with things. Marking time in a care home, with poor health weighing down on her, she has decided it’s time to go.

Präsentiert von: Originally from Dublin, Clare O’Dea lives in Fribourg with her family and has been writing about Switzerland for more than 20 years. She spent a decade as a journalist working for the international news service of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, covering Swiss politics, culture and business. Her first non-fiction book, The Naked Swiss: A Nation Behind 10 Myths (2016), was a Swiss bestseller. Voting Day, her first novel, is set in 1959 on the day Swiss men voted ‘no’ to granting women the vote. The Swiss edition is available in English, German, French and Italian. Before the Leaves Fall (Fairlight Books) is her first contemporary novel.
