“an intimate, contemplative quality; sometimes melancholic, often with an exhilarating beauty“—The Guardian

Australian pianist/composer Sophie Hutchings performs elegant post-classical music which flits from soothing, idyllic, and melancholy to urgent and tempestuous. Likened to artists such as Nils Frahm, Max Richter, and Dustin O'Halloran, her music focuses on delicate piano melodies, sometimes incorporating strings, woodwind, percussion, ethereal vocals and ambient electronica.

An avid surfer and deep lover of the outdoors, she draws inspiration from the beauty of the natural world and the expansive landscape of her native Australia. She’s known for compositions that sway from the disarmingly spare and elegant to the romantic and epic – all expressing a distinct, exquisite fragility and intimacy.

Sophie has twice been nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize; her album ‘Echoes in the Valley ’was the #1 classical album in the UK in 2021; in 2024 she was received the Australian Record Industry Association award for Best Classical release.

Hutchings ’music has taken her around the world, touring internationally through Japan and Europe, as well as her native Australia. Sophie’s work has been featured in a number of films (most recently Baby Teeth and True
