Händels „Alexander’s Feast or The Power of Music“ (HWV 75) wurde am 19. Februar 1736 im Theater „Covent Garden“ vor 1300 begeisterten Zuschauern uraufgeführt. Das Werk basiert auf einer Ode von John Dryden aus dem Jahr 1697, und steht in der Tradition der Cäcilienfeste.
