Instructions for Use is a performative XR-based installation involving visitors interacting in mixed reality headsets. The work is inspired by Fluxus performances as well as artist Bruce Nauman’s repetitive and ritualistic endurance videos from the 1960s where language is used to instruct physical action. AI agents analyze what cameras embedded in the headsets see and generate voiced-over instructions that provoke surprising actions/interactions between the visitors. Thus, a strange performance emerges in the mode of instructions executed by humans but imagined by machine.
