Friendslists: Personalised display of discount codes and access keys

With the Friendslist, promo codes and categories protected by an access key can be displayed in a particularly eye-catching way on the event detail page. Instead of entering a code manually, it is embedded directly in the URL: when the link is opened, the benefit is applied automatically and shown immediately – including a custom message, text and image. This allows discount promotions or restricted areas to be presented in a personal, exclusive and emotional way.

The Friendslist is ideal for collaborations, influencer marketing, closed groups or dedicated VIP areas where exclusivity should be clearly felt.

Overview:

What is a Friendslist?

A Friendslist is created when someone accesses your event page via a direct link. This link contains a discount code or access key automatically. This informs Eventfrog that a specific target group should benefit from this advantage.

The notice always appears in the same place:

  • directly below the fixed menu header
  • before the ticket section

The Friendslist can be customised and may include the following elements:

  • a title
  • a short description text
  • an image or logo
  • a coloured background area

This allows exclusive offers to be displayed clearly, without the need for further communication.

How do you create a Friendslist?

Create a promo code
First, go to the Cockpit and select «Codes».
Here, you can define:

  • percentage or fixed amount discount
  • validity period
  • maximum number of orders or tickets
  • whether the promo code can be redeemed once per person

If you would like more detailed guidance on creating promo codes, you can find a step-by-step explanation in our Help Centre article on creating discount codes.

Assign the promo code
To activate the Friendslist, the promo code must be assigned to one or more events. You can:

  • select individual events
  • apply the promo code to specific ticket categories
  • or assign it to all Plus and Pro events

Create the direct link
Once the promo code has been created, click on «Direct link» to generate a URL that can be shared with influencers, partners or guests.

This link always leads directly to the event detail page with the promo code or acces key already applied.

Please note: The direct link only works once the event has been published.

Customise the Friends list

By clicking on «Customise event page», you can define the following elements:

  • Title (required, max. 60 characters), e.g. «ðŸŽ‰ Exclusive discount for friends!»
  • Text (optional, max. 200 characters), e.g. «You receive a 10% discount on your ticket!»
  • Image/Logo (optional, according to upload requirements)
  • Colour (required, default white)

All settings always apply to all direct links created with this discount code or access key. If you update these details, the changes will be applied immediately to all affected links.

When does the Friends list appear?

A Friendslist becomes visible when the following conditions are met:

  • The direct link contains a discount code
  • The code is active and valid
  • The code applies to this event
  • You have added a Friendslist design (optional)

When the code is shared, a notice is automatically displayed above the ticket section. This indicates whether the code is valid, ensuring that visitors immediately know: A discount is active!

If the code is invalid (e.g. expired, deactivated or not recognised), no discount will be applied and an appropriate message will be displayed.

What is the structure of the direct link?

The direct link is generated automatically. This ensures that the discount code or access key is active as soon as the event page opens, and that the Friendslist is displayed if desired.

The link consists of:

  1. the URL of the event details page or event group
  2. a code parameter:
  • ?promocode=MYCODE → for discount codes
  • ?accessCode=MYCODE → for access keys

There is also an option to display only protected ticket categories for access keys.
In this case, the system adds the following parameter:

  • &showAccesscodeCatsOnly=true

Examples of direct links

Discount code:

https://eventfrog.ch/de/event/12345?promocode=CODENAME10

Access key:

https://eventfrog.ch/de/event/12345?accessCode=VIP

Access key with protected categories only:

https://eventfrog.ch/de/event/12345?accessCode=VIP&showAccesscodeCatsOnly=true

When someone opens one of these links, Eventfrog automatically recognises the code and, if the conditions are met, displays the friends list on the event page.
