What are discount codes and how can I create them?
Discount codes enable you to offer ticket buyers a price reduction. You can choose the amount of the discount, how long it is valid for and which events or categories it can be used for. Discount codes are ideal for promotions, partner campaigns or community offers, and are available with the Plus package.
Overview:
What are discount codes?
Discount codes are unique codes that can be entered at the checkout to reduce the ticket price (e.g. CODENAME10). You decide how the discount should work. For each code, you determine:
- Discount type: Percentage discount or fixed amount in EUR
- Discount value: e.g. 10% or 10EUR
- Validity period: start and end date and time
- Limitations: e.g. maximum number of orders or tickets per code
- Use per person: one-time or unlimited
- Combinability: whether the code can be used with other discounts
- Status: active or deactivated
Discount codes can be created, managed and assigned to events directly in the Cockpit.
How do I create discount codes?
- Open your event organiser Cockpit
- Click on the «Codes» section in the left-hand menu
- Switch to the Discount codes / Friendslist tab
There you will find:
- All existing discount codes
- Search and filter options
- Edit, assign and direct link functions
Create a new discount code
In the «Discount codes / Friendslist» tab, click on «Create discount code».
In the modal, you can:
Define code
- Enter a single code
- Upload multiple codes via Excel
- Minimum length: 4 characters
- Maximum: 20 characters
Set preferences
When creating a discount promotion, each promo code can be configured very precisely. This allows the code to be perfectly tailored to the event, target audience or campaign objective.
Discount type: amount or percentage
This is where the exact amount or percentage value is defined.
Amount
- fixed discount (e.g. 10.– EUR)
- only works for events using the same currency
Percentage
- reduces the ticket price by a percentage (e.g. 10%, 20%, 25%)
Limit the maximum number of orders
You can define how many times a promo code can be used in total.
Limit the maximum number of tickets
Defines how many tickets in total can be purchased using this promo code.
Redemption per person
You decide whether the promo code can be used once or multiple times per person:
- enabled: each person can use the promo code only once
- disabled: unlimited use (as long as ticket quota is available)
Validity period
Set the start and end date, including time, during which the promo code can be redeemed.
Combination logic
Decide whether this promo code can be used together with other active promo codes.
Active / Deactivated
You can pause or activate each promo code at any time.
Assign discount codes
In order for a discount code to be used, you must assign it to an event. To do so, click on «Assign».
Then select the event for which you want to apply the discount code. If you wish, you can also apply the code to all your Plus and Pro events. In this case, future events will also be automatically included.
Then choose how the code should be applied – to individual ticket categories, automatically according to matching category names or by adopting the assignments of an existing code.
Visibility and Friendslist display
Discount codes don't just work behind the scenes; they can also be displayed visibly. The code is automatically transferred to an event via a direct link and can be displayed on the event details page as a Friendslist. A Friendslist can consist of customisable elements, such as a title, text, image/logo and colour background. This enables you to create emotional promotions, explain protected access transparently, and refine discount promotions for specific target groups.
You can find all the information you need about Friendslists, direct links and display options at: Friendslists: Personalised display of discount codes and access keys
Archive codes:
You can archive discount codes that are no longer in use.
- Archived codes are automatically deactivated
- They will disappear from the default view
- They can be restored if desired
This feature is ideal for seasonal promotions or limited-time campaigns.
