Die gefeierte Lyrikerin (»Proben von Stein und Licht«) und Romanautorin (»Wie hoch die Wasser steigen«) erzählt von Hedda, Artistin im »Alkazar« auf der Reeperbahn in den 1930er Jahren. Als die neuen Uniformen erst vereinzelt im Publikum auftauchen, dann immer mehr werden, wird es für die Mädchen im Varieté gefährlich.

Kampmann erzählt die Geschichte einer weiblichen Selbstbehauptung in der patriarchalen Gesellschaft des Nationalsozialismus. Ein soghaftes Buch, historisch grundiert und dabei brandaktuell.
