The traditional Japanese vegetarian style is called 'Shojin Ryori' . We usually had shojin bento at temple ceremonies or funerals.

Shojin Ryori (vegetarian cuisine) is based on Buddhist precepts (prohibition of killing) and is made solely from plant-based ingredients, primarily vegetables, grains, seaweed, and processed soybeans, without using animal products such as meat, fish, or eggs. As part of ascetic training, it is a traditional and healthy diet that purifies the body and mind, with consideration given to flavor and nutritional balance (the five tastes, five colors, and five methods).
