Voices from North Greenland. Talk (EN)

Voices from North Greenland. Talk (EN) Nordamerika Native Museum NONAM, Seefeldstrasse 317, 8008 Zürich Tickets
Einlass:
-
Nordamerika Native Museum NONAM, Zürich (CH)

Greenland is at the center of global changes: climate change is altering the sea ice, political interests are colliding, and traditional ways of life are under pressure. The exhibition At the Ice Edge: Revisiting North Greenland offers a personal view of these developments from the perspective of the Inughuit in Qaanaaq, one of the northernmost inhabited regions of the Arctic. This is where Aleqatsiaq Peary and his son Jonas, the two main protagonists of the exhibition, live. Photographer Markus Bühler and his son Nils accompanied the two on a hunting trip. Now, Aleqatsiaq and Jonas are coming to Zurich to talk about their life in Qaanaaq, about hunting, about passing on knowledge from father to son, and about what it means to live at the ice edge today. Aleqatsiaq Peary and Jonas will share their personal perspectives on the photographs and film on display.

The talk is designed to be interactive – questions, comments, and discussions are welcome. The event will be held in English. We look forward to a stimulating exchange.

Guests:

Aleqatsiaq Peary (Inughuit hunter, translator, musician)
Jonas Nielsen (aspiring hunter)
Markus Bühler (photographer)
Nils Bühler (filmmaker)

Moderation:

Heidrun Löb (Director and Head curator)
