Innovation, persistence, and adaptability – These words have been used to describe the sailing ships that helped Columbus discover America (the caravel) and couldn’t be more fitting to describe young band Caravel who equally as effortlessly are embarking on their sail through the sea called rock music. The young five-piece band formed at the renowned Popakademie in Mannheim, Germany, right in the first week of sessions and the bandmembers have been inseparable ever since. Some people might get nostalgic when hearing names such as Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and Deep Purple and even though the prime time of those artists was well before the bandmembers saw the light of day, the feel and sounds of that time took a hold of the group very quickly, especially frontwoman Chiara Kilchling. The singer and songwriter, who began her career as a child singing in opera ensembles, now embraces the unique folk touch of her voice that gives Caravel’s music it’s modern and unique twist. Combined with tight riffs and a fresh approach, Caravel have created a bouquet of songs full of youthful ease and a straightforward attitude. Musically the band goes through the wall headfirst, not afraid to swim against the fastflowing stream created by trends and proving that rock music is way more than dusty nostalgia that belongs in the past.
